Face tone - toning facial muscles

When the muscles under your face or neck sag, there are three things you can do about it, and I suggest you do them sooner rather than later.

Skin has an amazing capacity to stretch, and this is exactly what you don't want. Sooner or later it will forget to spring back! Facial exercises for facial toning are one possibility. But you have to be careful of causing wrinkles if you do facial exercise. I don't simply mean being careful not to stretch the skin, I mean facial exercise in itself will cause the skin to crinkle up.

So, place your fingers carefully exactly Where your skin has a tendency to wrinkle during exercise, and press gently. If you also use the muscles against your finger pressure the exercise will be that much stronger.

How do I know which muscle to exercise?

Experimentally move each facial muscle, when you find a movement that causes a part of your face that was drooping to lift, add that movement to your routine. I suggest you start with pushing the corners of you mouth outwards (keep a finger on any lines at the corners of you eyes, and nose to mouth lines to stop them crinkling up) while using a finger mid cheekbone to give your facial muscles something to press against. As well as outwards, try 'upwards' that is, lift the corners of your mouth upwards so different muscles are exercised.

You can also exercise forehead muscles by raising eyebrows. Do keep you hand flat against your forhead to prevent creases.

Facial Toning Systems

Electronic facial toning systems are another possibility. These pass a mild current into the muscle and cause it to expand and contract to improve facial tone. These will not cause your skin to wrinkle up.

Surgery

Your skin is attached quite firmly to your underlying facial muscles so you should achieve excellent results (depending on how elastic your skin is) using just face muscle toning systems, but if you do not, it could be time for surgery. If you have reached the stage where some serious muscle sagging has occurred and facial toning exercises or facial toning systems can't quite keep up, its time to go and see a surgeon. Some face lifts also lift the underlying sagging muscle, and might be exactly what you need.
