When you go to have laser hair removal treatment, you need short stubs of hair left in your skin. You should shave the area a day or two before treatment so that just the right amount of hair is left. If you forget to do this, you or your beautician will have to do it before treatment starts. The laser homes in on the dark color of the hair and if the hair is too long you will certainly feel it as the laser goes to work on the entire hair shaft!

My beautician told me of one gentlemen who came for laser hair removal treatment and forgot to do this. Unfortunately he was so hairy he was like a bear! It took three assistants to shave his back and body and there was so much hair that alone took two hours!

Next you lie down with dark goggles on to protect you from the laser while the technician marks off the areas to be treated into rectangles. This is so its easier to see which areas have been done, and which not.

If you are having a large area done, say your legs, this will take some time so I would suggest taking a book to read during treatment. Hair being removed this way can be a little painful so you might want to take a painkiller beforehand - trust me it will help! The sensation can get pretty annoying after even five minutes. To do all your legs can take a couple of hours.

The sensation itself is pretty much what it looks like it is - and it looks like lots of tiny little fireworks going off in your hair follicles! Little yellowish sparks!

Well thats what its like if you are like me, that is have light skin but dark hair. Light skin and dark hair is one of the most efficient combinations for hair removal treatment as quite a lot of power can be used in the laser (really an 'IPL'). If the sensation gets too much you can ask for the power to be turned down.

The results of treatment will vary depending on how vigourously your hair grows. I can certainly say the money I spent was well worth it in time saved shaving
