Anti Aging with Sasha - Dermal fillers - what difference could they make to me?

Facial fillers - replacing subcutaneous fat lost through aging.

Do you want to 'flesh out' your face again the way it was when you were younger?

This is possibly the most neglected aspect of anti-aging, yet the most spectacular!

As I've already mentioned, people are often under the knife long before they should be - when loose skin and drooping is really caused by the loss of tissue under the skin. Once the problem has been correctly identified, treatment with collagen, Perlane, Restylane or Aquamid can go ahead, and the results are amazing.

Losing that important layer of fat under the skin is probably the main cause of looking old up till about age 50. Replacing subcutaneous facial fat with dermal filler will also help hide some underlying muscle sag, depending on the skill of your practitioner.

Here are two photos of an actress under natural light. Finding pictures of actresses under natural light isn't easy but here she is on the left. On the right is the exact same photograph after I have retouched it to show the effect she might get after a lot of dermal filler. (I have to use retouching as I'm not a dermatologist and don't treat patients, however your practitioner should have plenty of before and after photos of people with collagen, perlane, aquamid treatment etc., from real life to show you.

The blotchiness went, because thats just a side effect of pushing pixels round, but most of the change is the increase in plumpness in certain areas. Now do bear in mind that I'm an artist not a dermatologist, but look at those pictures. I have seen similar results on other people with my own eyes, and these pictures are not an exageration.

First, I mimicked the effect of filling in underneath the cheekbones. This is called the 'sub-malar' area. Then I brought that both towards the nose and under the eye. My favourite permanent filler, Aquamid, can not go into the actual eyesocket area, (although a fat graft can) so I did not show that.

Having the cheekbone area filled in with permanent or temporary fillers will help smooth out the nose to mouth lines, but this is rarely enough by itself so I showed the effect of having these filled as well.

Next the downward lines from the outer corner of the lips - although this lady doesn't have a severe problem.

Then the depression under the lips and out a little, along with the effect of about 2cc into the lips themselves.

I added the effect of some filler to her frown lines, although in real life botox would probably be better for this.

After all of this, her face looked very young, but the eyes looked much older so I mimicked the effect of taking out the slight excess skin there. It was the only effect here that cannot be achieved by filler.

When you see people who look obviously tampered with, what you are noticing, unless it is the surprised expression, is how spare their faces look from lower cheekbone to jaw. The face might even curve inwards instead of outwards! There is just less face than there used to be! The fat under the skin has been lost and instead of replacing it, in many cases, the skin has merely been tightened.

If the loss of facial volume had been corrected with Perlane, Restylane or Aquamid it might have been unnecessary for another 15 years, and, bearing in mind that Aquamid is permanent, it might have worked out cheaper anyway. If you want to get Aquamid treatment in the US it is not yet approved by the FDA although approval is expected any time. If you want to find a cosmetic surgeon who uses it, the ones most likely to have Aquamid available in the US for off label use are the ones who do Restylane, Perlane, Dermalive or collagen injections. You will have to shop around to find it and if all else fails go and see Liinzi James in London.

temporary fillers - collagen, perlane etc
permanent fillers - aquamid - etc
